It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Nana, Maureen Corbett, on April 5th 2022 at the age of 81 years. Maureen was predeceased by her parents James and Doris Maher and brother Jamie Maher. She is survived by her loving children Richard (Lisa), Doris-Rissy (Doug) and Douglas (Jennifer).
Nana will be missed by all of her grandchildren, Robyn, Ciara, Colby, Caileen, Reannah, Madison, Erin, Kiela and Tristan.
Also mourning her loss are her sister-in-law Desiree, many nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family; many close friends and everyone who loved her.
Mom was the matriarch of our family and the keeper of so much knowledge. She was devoted to her Children and Grandchildren, and always had a hug and a kiss for anyone who came by. She loved to cook for them and especially at Christmas would have tins of treats for many people she knew that needed a sugary love.
Mom was a devout Catholic and never missed Mass; she always put family, friends and most importantly God first. She raised us to treat everyone with the same respect no matter who or what they are.
Mom was born and raised in East Vancouver and her early years were spent with an abundance of love from her parents. She grew up on 6th ave surrounded by her grandparents and many Aunties, Uncles and cousins. She attended St Francis of Assis elementary school and found herself loved by the nuns that taught her. She then moved on to a year at Notre Dame before finishing off her high school at Van Tech. She went to school to become a secretary and worked at several companies including Woodwards where she worked in the accounting department before she got married and had a family. She was the kind of Mom everyone wanted and loved: selfless and hard working, our house was always full of homemade goodness and a table open to everyone.
She loved to travel and went on many trips with her friends and cousins including Reno, California, Hawaii, England, Scotland and Ireland.
She enjoyed telling people about her love for Ireland and her Irish heritage. She was an avid reader before eyesight was taken away from her and loved to watch british crime dramas and old movies or just listen to Pavarotti while playing cards.
We know she is up in heaven dancing an Irish jig with a gin and tonic in hand surrounded by her family.
We will miss you Mommy!
