Richard John Harland was born in Montreal before moving to Vancouver attending West Vancouver and Hillside High Schools. After marrying and starting a family, Richard moved to Saskatoon graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982, attaining his Masters of Veterinary Science (Epidemiology) in 1987. Through his career in clinical veterinary research he published over 40 papers cited over 1000 times working for Biostar and ultimately Novartis Animal Health as their Head of Global Vaccines Lead Finding. In addition to leading a busy professional and academic career, Richard raised 3 sons, enjoyed spending time on the ranch, horseback riding, travelling & skiing. His beaming sense of humour and quick wit was a source of joy for all that knew him. Richard is predeceased by his father William, and survived by his mother Noelene, brother Bruce (Janine) sisters Ana (Tom) and Lorraine (Barry), sons Nathan (Michelle) John, David and grandson Spencer. A celebration of a Richard's life will be held at Noon, Sunday Mar 5th at First Memorial in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the ALS Society in Canada at als.ca.
