Like others Richard had a huge influence on me as a scientist and as a person. He loved to have fun but intellectually he always pushed me to the next level.  I have missed our "conversations" about big ideas. He was insistent on the establishment on continuing education development in his colleagues. I was fortunate to have gotten to work with him and to know and call him friend

My sincere condolences to Richard's family. Richard was one of a kind, with an eternally curious mind, fantastic sense of humor and beautiful charismatic personality. He left his intellectual legacy in the field of animal vaccines and his personal legacy in many of our hearts. I will always remember his infectious laugh and willingness to talk about anything and everything. May you find peace my friend.

I was very fortunate to have worked with Richard when he was the Director of R&D Vaccines at Novartis.  The guidance, mentorship and opportunities Richard provided to myself and the entire team left an indelible mark on our careers and most importantly our lives.  His wonderful mix of passion and humor brought a great sense of character to our research site that continues to live in all of us today.  We will miss you Richard but your memory will be with us forever.

Richard spent the years of 2002 - 2006 as the R&D Director for a Novartis Animal Health site near Sioux Falls, SD, where Richard lived.  In addition to the many advances in veterinary biologics which Richard led, the R&D site became a significant contributor to the clinical efforts of the Novartis human vaccine division (NV&D), due to Richards's ever present spirit of collaboration.  I believe Richard's greatest gift to the people of the site was the establishment of a very successful continuing education program, providing both undergrad and graduate degrees to many of the scientists. Richard was a strong advocate for continual learning, both formal education and as a mentor.  He had a profound impact on the lives of many, including my own, for which I am forever grateful. Richard lives on in the hearts and minds of all whom he mentored.
