It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ronald Way Hon Joe, who was born in Victoria, B.C., and passed away on January 31, 2022, in Vancouver, B.C., at the age of 92.
Ron is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Alison, Gail, and Terilyn, his grandson, James and his wife, and his three great grandsons. Ron was predeceased by our brother, Franklin, and our mother, Grace.
Our Dad was an incredibly cheerful person. He had a terrific sense of humor, he loved to laugh and tell jokes, he had a great smile, and he made friends with everyone he met. Our Dad had a powerful inner strength and he taught us to always stand up for ourselves. Our Dad encouraged us and believed in us, and always said that if his kids were happy, he was happy.
In his younger days, our Dad was nicknamed "One punch Ronnie" because he was a Golden Gloves Welterweight Champion who once knocked out an opponent with just one punch. After his boxing days were over, our Dad stayed in shape by getting up at 6 AM every day to go jogging, earning the new nickname "the six o'clock man".
Our Dad was a beloved high school teacher whose classroom presence and lessons were legendary. Our Dad was a trailblazer who won the Sheila Cameron Business Educator Award for creating a marketing program and a law education program for high schools.
We are grateful for the time we had with our Dad and all the precious memories. We miss our Dad deeply but will carry him in our hearts forever and we know he will always be watching over us, while making friends with all the angels in heaven.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com for the Joe family.
