Ruby was predeceased by her siblings Alice (Gerald) Lockhart, Harold (Vivian) Drummond and Irwin (Joyce) Drummond. Ruby is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, William (Bill) Finck, and her children Chris (Colleen) Finck, Leigh Finck, and Angela (Andrew) Vainio, Gina (Jody)Parry. She was predeceased by her daughters Deborah and Gwendolyn. Ruby leaves behind a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ruby’s life journey took her from Prince Edward Island to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she met and married Bill in 1954. Together, they built a life living in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Then In 1977, their journey led them to British Columbia, where they lived in West Vancouver for a decade before settling in Squamish for 20 years. Ruby spent her final years living at Cedarview Lodge, In North Vancouver.
An extraordinary watercolor artist, Ruby captured the essence of the Sea to Sky region through her paintings, representing the majestic mountains, rivers, and oceans. Her love for nature and the beauty of God’s creation reflected in her art. Known for her words of wisdom, like “let go and let God,".
Ruby touched the lives of many with her kindness and grace. Her captivating blue eyes and genuine sweetness touched the hearts of those she met. Family was at the heart of Ruby's life. She loved hosting family gatherings, such as Christmas, birthdays, and any occasion that brought loved ones together. Her positivity remained even as she moved to Cedarview Lodge care home as she declared herself “a lady of leisure”. Beyond her family, Ruby found joy in activities like hiking, skiing (a skill she acquired in her late 50s), curling, golf, and traveling, always supporting her beloved Bill. Ruby was a dedicated mom and wife, but she also excelled in her career as a legal secretary and then in her 60s, she worked at the Whiskey Jack Resorts in Whistler where her coworkers admired her, strength and positivity.
Ruby's family remains forever grateful for the compassionate care she received from the staff at Cedarview Lodge. Her absence is deeply felt, but her legacy of love, resilience, and positivity will forever endure in the hearts of those she touched. Ruby will be dearly missed, and her memory cherished by all who were blessed enough to know her.
The family will be having a private Celebration of Life in Squamish on December 16th.
