

Ruth Ragnhild Riedlinger (Johansson) passed away peacefully in the afternoon of February 22, 2018. She was born in Lacombe, Alberta on March 2, 1931 and when the family was still young her parents moved their family, Ruth, Alfie and Erik to Vancouver, where she graduated from King Edward High School. Growing up she met Arthur Riedlinger, who was a boarder at their rooming house and as well someone she used to dance with at the Swedish Hall. They enjoyed a long happy marriage and thirty six of those years were spent at the family home they created at 505 East 28th Avenue. Ruth and Art later moved to their dream home in Port Coquitlam and following Ruth moved to North Vancouver to be closer to her two sons and the family business, Sailor Hagar’s Pub. She is survived by her brother Erik and his wife Jeannine Johansson, her three children and their spouses, Christina and Glenn Duke, Brian and Donna Riedlinger and Allan and Janet Riedlinger and her grand children Linnea (Rob), Tamara (Nick) ,Katarina, Kaylen (Jonathan), Jeffrey (Megan), Mallory, Erika, her four great grandchildren , Trahern, Aiden, Sadie, Rafferty and a fifth on the way.
Ruth loved her family and her many close friends and she always made a special effort to get them together to celebrate life. Ruth enjoy attending special events that her grandchildren were involved in and always said hugs from her grandchildren was her medicine. She travelled the world and enjoyed meeting people wherever she went. She faced many challenges in her life but always overcame them with her positive attitude. Along with her family, Ruth’s pride and joy was the family business, Sailor Hagar’s Pub, which she helped create in 1986 and stay involved with for many years. She had a gift for people and she always made the employees and customers feel very special, treating them as part of her family.
Over the years Ruth worked in market research and the travel industry. Her passions were travelling, swimming, dancing, listening to music, painting and doing dried flower arranging.
Ruth’s warmth and love for her family and friends and the many people she has touched throughout her life will be truly missed. She truly made the world a better place.
A ‘Celebration of Life” will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday March 19, 2018 at Boal Chapel 1505 Lillooet Rd. North Vancouver, BC.
