It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shin Tsuchida, peacefully in his sleep, on July 4, 2025 in Vancouver at the age of 85. Shin was predeceased by his father, Masanobu; his mother, Kikuno, and his brother Gene. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Michiyo; his daughter, Carol; his son, Daniel; his granddaughters, Isabel and Olivia; his sister-in-law, Akemi; and his nephew, Richard.
Shin was born in Vancouver, then spent his early childhood in the internment camps at Tashme in the interior of British Columbia. Following the end of WWII, he moved to Japan with his family until returning to Vancouver as a youth. He graduated from Britannia Secondary School, then received his Bachelor of Commerce from UBC and MBA from Keio University in Tokyo, where he married Michiyo. Shin began his long-career as a banker at CIBC, and spent his time in Toronto and Tokyo before returning again to Vancouver. He continued to work as a banker until he retired, but also started his own driving school.
Although Shin worked hard, he also made time to enjoy his life. Shin loved baseball and coached Carol’s softball teams for years in high school, where the teenage girls referred to him affectionately as, “Mr. T.”
Shin was passionate about golf and played regularly for decades, traveling around the world on golf holidays with his life-long golf buddies.
Shin was devoted to his family and in his retirement, traveled extensively with Michiyo, Carol, Isabel and Olivia. He loved to tease and laugh with his granddaughters and had an endless supply of bad puns and jokes. Shin was incredibly kind and thoughtful and was truly a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. We were blessed to have him in our lives.
We are heartbroken and will miss him dearly.
