Shirley was predeceased by her husband Nes in 2006 and is survived by her three children, Barbara, Robert and David. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Kalista, Elizabeth, Nicole, Katelynn, Nathan, Jordan and Clayton and unbeknownst to Shirley, a great granddaughter, Emily.
Shirley was born in Rock Bay, BC on December 2nd 1934 and spent her childhood living in various locations on Vancouver Island and eventually moving to Vancouver where she met Nestor Romaniuk at a dance in 1952. They were married in July of 1954 and resided in North Vancouver their whole lives.
Shirley was a loyal wife and a loving caregiver to her children and a close, special friend to many that she met in her lifetime. After the kids left home, she worked at Elworthy Electrical with her family from 1982 until her retirement in 2008.
Shirley and Nes were actively involved in square dancing their whole lives and many great friendships and activities were shared with the Weavers square dance club. Shirley also loved watching amateur soccer and attended almost every single game over the course of many, many years. The holidays in Penticton with the Weavers, weekend trips to Whistler and to sunny California to visit with Barbara and her family, were all very special to mom. Shirley also loved her cats and had many over the years and pampered them just like the rest of her family. A milestone and well attended 50th wedding anniversary party in July 2004 was the epitome and pinnacle celebration of Shirley and Nes' life together.
Shirley's final years were a bleak comparison to the active life her and Nes had created for themselves and it brings peace and closure knowing that Shirley has finally been reunited.
A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Inglewood Care Home for their compassion that kept Shirley safe and comfortable.
God Bless Shirley and may she now rest in peace.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com for the Romaniuk family.
