Shirley passed away peacefully on Friday August 2, 2024 in her 91st year. She was much loved and will be sorely missed. She is survived by her five grandchildren, Shannon, Debbie, Adam, Rebecca and Ryan, 7 great grandchildren, and two sons-in-law Brian and Andrew, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was predeceased by her husband Bob who she felt blessed to have shared 70 happy years of marriage and life together. She was also predeceased by her son Peter aka Dr. Peter and daughter Nancy. She was an active volunteer and supporter of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation founded by Peter prior to his death in 1992. She was the Dr. Peter Centre’s ‘Mother’ sharing her warmth, hugs and love with all.
She cherished bringing new friends into her life wherever she lived in Vancouver, Nanaimo, Duncan, Prince Rupert and for over 40 years in her beloved Edgemont Village. When she moved into her new apartment in Amica Edgemont in February 2023 she enthusiastically played bridge, took pilates, socialized over happy hours, movies, dinners and developed treasured friendships.
In true form, Shirley was not going to miss a social event. She attended her own Celebration of Life on July 28th where she was honoured by friends and family. Her ashes will be placed in the cemetery at St. Peter’s Quamichan Church, Duncan later in the Fall. And while she will be missed “her energy will not be lost”
The family wishes to gratefully thank her dear friends, the staff at Amica Edgemont Village, Dr. Chow and Northshore Palliative Home Care for your care and love for Shirley. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, 1110 Comox St. Vancouver or do something kind for someone less fortunate than yourself.
