Vanessa Resultan Soros passed away on September 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer at the Vancouver General Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Derek, her mother Virginia, her brothers VJ and Vincent, and her loyal companion, her golden Labrador Bailey.
Vanessa was born on January 29, 1983 to Virginia De Vera and Aquilino Resultan in Calasiao, Pangasinan. A small town in central Philippines, Vanessa was raised on a farm with her two brothers, guided by the love of their sweet Lolo and Lola. Vanessa’s home was surrounded by a forest of fruit trees and she could often be found climbing high into their treetops alongside her brothers and cousins.
At the age of 15, Vanessa moved to Canada to begin a new adventure with her family in Vancouver, BC.
Vanessa was then accepted to BCIT and during her studies began working as a Junior Accountant at BGC Engineering. After obtaining a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Accounting (with distinction), she then achieved her Chartered Professional Accountant designation. She worked at BGC Engineering for 10 years predominantly as a Project Accountant.
While pursuing her CPA, Vanessa’s path crossed once again with a colleague from a past job, Derek Soros, and not long after, they fell deeply in love. After a beautiful wedding ceremony in North Vancouver in the summer of 2019, the newlyweds later commenced their romantic whirlwind honeymoon across Europe, visiting 11 gorgeous different regions, where the couple’s love was cemented in eternity.
Vanessa and Derek would regularly enjoy bike rides together and shared a love for cooking, Vanessa focusing on preparing breakfast or adobo style dishes from the Philippines, while Derek’s Carbonara was always known to put a giant grin on Vanessa’s face.
Vanessa brightened up any room with her genuine and encouraging nature. She cared deeply for the wellbeing of her family, friends and colleagues and always spread joy with her contagious smile. She was generous with her love and time and would often put her own life on pause to make others feel like they were the center of the world.
Vanessa was gifted with an open and curious mind and an adventurous spirit; she never shied away from challenges and was always excited to try something new and different. When Vanessa had a dream, she would leave no stone unturned in order to turn that dream into reality, regardless of the effort it would take.
Ever the optimist, Vanessa enjoyed life to the fullest and was happiest when enjoying new adventures traveling with her husband, family and friends, or when taking Bailey for his daily walks.
Vanessa will be deeply missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by the loss of her. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
