It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vera DeVito on Jan. 10, 2024, at the age of 97. Vera was predeceased by her husband Tony and son, Michael and is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Ruth, brother John (Arlene), her children Paula (Mel), Randy, Teresa (Don), her grandchildren Jonathan (Bernadette), Angela (Craig), Lindsay (Sean), Ashley (Nick), Kristy, Veronica, and also her great grandchildren Shay, James, Ava, Payton, Nyah & Hudson, and many nieces and nephews. Vera dedicated her life to her family and especially loved all our family get togethers and never missed a single event. She was born in Oshawa, Ontario, a few years after her Mom & Dad immigrated to Canada from Norway. She was always proud of her Norwegian heritage and spoke so highly of her Mom & Dad & her six siblings and of all the great times she had in her younger years -- she had so many stories! She lived most of her years in North Burnaby in the family home Tony built and then in later years she enjoyed living independently in an apartment, then at Seton Villa for 11 years. She dedicated a lot of her time to volunteering at the Confederation Seniors’ Centre in Burnaby for over 30 yrs and also at the Legion. She was on a bowling team for many years and was the President of her bowling league. Vera was an incredible seamstress -- always sewing, knitting and crocheting something special for her family. She loved shopping on Saturdays at Brentwood, and also loved her weekly Bingo outings and driving all her friends to Bingo in her big ’56 Chevy station wagon. Over the past two years she lived at George Derby, then at Maplewood House care facility in Abbotsford. The family would like to thank all the staff at these facilities for the compassion and care given to our Mom in these past few years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, 2PM at Boal Chapel, North Vancouver.
Vera was a sweet, gentle little lady with the biggest, kindest heart – she was loved by everyone and will be missed so much!
