It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved Vera has passed away on September 16, 2017 leaving her husband of 58 years, John Paterson; daughters, Helen and Sandie; and grandsons, Ryan Kissinger, Sean Kissinger and Connor Paterson. Vera was born in 1938 in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to Haroldwood, Essex as a child where she met her life-long friend Mary Rudin. Vera excelled at school both academically and physically, she was a favourite among her teachers whom found her to be quick minded and quick on the grass hockey field. Vera met the love of her life John Paterson and they married on June 13, 1959 surrounded by family and friends. They had three children in 3 years Helen, Craig and Sandie, and in 1969 the family emigrated to North Vancouver. As a family they embraced the natural beauty of BC, with hiking, camping and fishing trips. Vera joined the North Shore Fish and Game club and became the first women president in the history of the club 1987-1988. Many years she would win awards for the largest fish caught by a women, her greatest fish topped out at 51 lbs. Vera was a trail blazer for women taking on leadership roles in her career as a government administrator, paving the way for women to excel to higher positions. In her retirement she was an avid golfer and walker with the Murphy's Rovers. Her dynamic presence will be missed with heartfelt sadness.
