We are sad to announce that William Glen Smart passed away peacefully at the Lion’s Gate Hospice at the age of 73. Bill was born in North Vancouver.
Bill worked at Liquid Carbonic Ltd. for approximately sixteen years until the company shut down in Vancouver and moved to Alberta. Bill did not want to leave British Columbia so he opted to stay and looked after his parents until they both passed.
Bill’s passion was the property up country at Loon Lake. All his free time was spent at the lake. His favourite thing to do was ride his motorbike and find new lakes in the surrounding area. His dream was to live there permanently.
Bill was also an avid pet owner. He cared for many dogs throughout his lifetime. Special mention to his last four legged companion, Shep, who brought him so much love and joy.
Bill is survived by his sister-in-law, Solange; his nephew Jamey (Shannon) and their son Jonah; and his niece Kim (Sherwin) and their daughter Eden. Bill was predeceased by his father, Roy Smart; his mother, Margaret Dixon, and his brother, Raymond Smart.
In 2012, shortly after he lost his mom, Bill was admitted to the Berkley Care Centre where he spent the next eleven years. Berkley became his new found home. It was here among the fellow residents and staff he found a vibrant community of friends and interests. Bill participated and volunteered many hours of service within the Berkley store, cafe corner and other residence facilitated activities. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the staff at Berkley Care Centre for their compassion and professionalism.
Donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
