Bill Tchir was born December 30th, 1935, to Mike & Pearl (Bobak) Tchir in Holden, Alberta. Moving to Vancouver, BC in his 20’s he married and raised his family in Vancouver, BC while working in the brewery business for over 40 years. On the morning of the 17th of April 2025, at 89 years old, Bill passed away peacefully leaving behind his 2 children, Barry (Margot) & Shelley (Kurt), 3 granddaughters Samantha (Martin), Amanda (Cade), Kassandra (Michael), sister Irene Pasnak and predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years Doreen (Millar) Tchir.
From a young age Bill worked on many neighbouring farms with uncles & cousins drilling wells then apprenticed as a carpenter/builder in Drayton Valley before moving to Vancouver. He was always ready and willing to help with any project on the go in the neighbourhood and felt the best way to learn how to do something was to help someone do it. Many cement pads, carports, sheds, fences, and repair jobs were built with his helping hand or watchful eye. Bill was an early riser, and his perfect day would consist of a 5am walk while waiting for the gym to open for a swim at 6am, picking up the morning paper and handing it to the lifeguard that was opening that day, meeting his buddies for a tea at McDonalds then finishing his sudoku or word search while relaxing in the afternoons.
When his youngest granddaughter was at UofA he wrote letters to keep in touch. He loved harvesting his fruit trees and vegetable garden and took pride in weighing his “crops” to compare to the year before. His community loved his presents. He had daily phone calls with his bestie Dave and loved a colourful argument over the phone about sports or anything else that was going on in his day to day. Bill Tchir was a pillar of strength and dedication, devoting countless hours to his family, his family home, and his Crusaders Club family. His 3 grand daughters were the apple of his eye, and he was always there to cheer them on or guide them in any way he could, enjoying weekly dinners, bottle drives and family vacations to name a few. The last 2 years he spent supporting his daughter Shelley who struggled with advanced Multiple Sclerosis. Bill would visit almost daily to ensure Shelley was well fed and taken care of, even doing her laundry on occasion. They were an inseparable pair in the end, and I know that Doreen was smiling down on them both.
