On January 31, 2018 Yukiko passed away peacefully at the North Shore Hospice. Survived by her son Les (Phyllis), daughter Ivy (Ray), grandson Alexander, sister Sachie (Mits), and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Keiichi and Kiku (Matsuda) Ikeda, husband Roy, sister Hisako, and brothers Harry and Tom. Yukiko was born February 26, 1923 in Burquitlam, B.C. and was raised in Otsumi, Yamaguchi-ken, Japan. She returned to the family farm in Haney, B.C. when she was 15 years old. After the war years, in the Tashme Internment Camp, the Ikeda family moved to Winnipeg MB where she married her lifelong partner Roy, raised 2 children, and contributed widely to the community. Her world revolved around her home and there were many family gatherings with memorable food, laughter, and card games. She worked as an industrial seamstress where her skill ensured a secure home life. The last 18 years were spent in North Vancouver living with her son, daughter- in-law, and favourite grandson Alexander. The family is grateful for the exceptional care Yukiko received at Lions Gate Hospital and the North Shore Hospice. In lieu of flowers or Okoden, please consider a donation to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation (North Shore Hospice) or the Vancouver Buddhist Temple. Yukiko worked tirelessly all her life, gave fully of her time to others, and can now, deservedly, rest in peace.
