Sally Barbara Stanbury Day

9 juin 195111 mai 2020

Sally was born on June 9th, 1951 to Margaret and Dick Stanbury in Toronto, ON. She loved the city and called Toronto home for the rest of her life. Anyone who knew Sally would describe her as the most thoughtful, selfless and caring person they had ever met; she had a special way of seeing the best in everyone. Her daughters, Jen (Jeff) and Jackie (Charlie), and her grandchildren, Tyler, Victoria, Lucas and Cooper were her life. She loved nothing more than to spend time with them at the cottage in Coboconk, or to babysit the kids so that their parents could get away. She loved her family tons and tons and made sure they knew it every day.

Sally was exceptionally creative. Family and friends often received remarkable gifts including personalized towels, blankets and quilts. Her other passion was baking. She baked cookies for everyone, her specialty was chocolate chip.

Her death came too soon and we will miss her every day. Her memory will live on with her entire family through the years of happy memories, pictures and hand made keepsakes.

Sally was predeceased by her parents, Marg and Dick Stanbury, and is survived by her daughters Jen Glass (Jeff), Jackie Shaw (Charlie), and her 4 grandchildren Tyler, Victoria, Lucas, and Cooper, her sister, Jane Baynham (Gordon Gibson), niece Kelsey Pfeiffer (Sam) and nephew David Baynham.

The family would like to thank the Palliative care team from Mount Sinai hospital for their kindness and guidance through this difficult time.

A celebration of life will be held once social distancing measures are lifted. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Dear Sally

When we first met, my body felt as if it was failing me at a very difficult time during mat leave with my second child and first born. I was in tears on many occasions but you and Chris were the beginning of a better me. I associated your voice (in person and on voice messages) with my healing. I have missed you and will be forever grateful for your patience, understanding, and kind heart.

Sally - I hardly knew you and yet I knew you well. You were such a warm, sharing, caring and generous spirited person that you made a significant impact on me.

You felt like a friend who I had known for a long time in spite of our limited opportunities to connect. We always picked up our conversations as if we had seen each other the day before. You will always have a place in my memory and heart.

You made a big happy impact on the world - I miss you.

A great loss, a heavy heart on learning of your passing, Sally. You showered Dr. Gordon's patients, including me, with kindness, patience, and warmth. Always a cheery word, and a smile. A bit of conversation that lifted spirits on the darkest days. Your legacy is far-reaching. You touched my family and me in immeasurable ways. You will be missed.
Deepest condolences to your family, and friends. It is, truly, a deep and painful loss.

I had the wonderful pleasure to know Sally, as so many people here, as a patient of Dr. Chris Gordon. I was truly saddened and shocked to hear of her loss, so untimely and sudden.

Every encounter I had with Sally was a ray of sun - she was always smiling, and so incredibly sweet and genuine. Each time we saw each other we talked about the young ones in our lives - my son, and her Grandchildren, of whom who she was so incredibly proud.

All my best to Sally's family and loved ones in this time. I know your loss must feel great.

Dear Sally:
Every time I walked into your office on Coxwell Street, you gave me the most wonderful and very comforting welcome with that familiar “hello Jorge” a second after I opened the door. I always thought you had paranormal powers, knowing I was standing outside your door without even looking at me or listening to my voice first. Always happy, with that epic and at the same time sweet smile. Your musical voice made me forget my knee or lower back pain immediately. After my therapy with Chris was done, you always make some time to share pictures or funny stories about your grandchildren and send me home happy, healthy and with a laugh. I’m going to miss all of that. I’m going to miss you more than you think. I never told you how much I appreciate you and how much I always enjoyed your company and our short but intense conversations. Rest In Peace Sally. You are precious soul.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Sally’s passing. I knew Sally as a patient of Dr. Chris Gordon.

I want her daughters and grandchildren to know, your Mom and Grandmother was a charming and gracious lady. She was funny, intelligent, caring, and compassionate. She was genuinely interested in people’s lives and careers. I always arrived early for my appointments as I truly enjoyed our “ one on one” conversations. We shared a common passion for Horticulture. She loved Edwards Gardens, where I worked for 10 years. As a patient, her calm demeanour and soothing words helped to lessen any pain or discomfort I may have been feeling.

Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they have brought into our lives.

For Sally’s Family, your Mom was an amazing woman and friend. Please accept my deepest sympathies, and may her soul Rest In Peace.

I knew Sally for a few short years and yet it feels a particular act of cruelty that someone with such a generosity of spirit and the patience to endure all our various personalities, should be taken from this world so soon.

Through her work, she made our days more gentle and was the balm before Dr. Gordon’s “tender” therapeutic ministrations. I think she would have laughed at that.

We will miss you Sally and are fortunate to have known you.

Sally was such a ray of sunshine - always willing to have a natter [in the good sense of the word] & she quickly became an additional 'bright ray of sunshine' at Dr. Chris’ Clinic, which was very appreciated - given one usually arrived in pain &/or bent out of shape. She brought her joy in life to her Clinic office work – she never seemed to have a down day. And she was good at seeing the person beyond the client coming for the appointment, welcoming us & making us comfy.

Although now there is a ‘Sally-sized’ hole in our lives, it was exceptionally good to know her.

My condolences to her family – whom she always spoke about with affection.
