Billy Joe Parsons Sr.

NORTHPORT – Billy Joe Parsons, Sr., age 84, of Northport, died July 20, 2016, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Tim Baumgarten officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Roland Parsons and Daisy Lorene Stone and sister, Catherine Burnett.Survivors include his wife, Wynema J. Parsons; daughter, Patricia Ann Stacy (John Harper Stacy); son, Joe Parsons (Patricia Parsons); sisters, Carolyn Vander and Mary Ruth Mueller; brothers, Walter Mack Parsons, Rocky Stone and Steve Stone; grandchildren, Brian Barksdale (Amy) and Lora Nix (Mark); great-grandchildren, Dale Nix, Pruitt Nix and Brylan Barksdale; and numerous other family and friends.Billy Joe was born in Cordova, Ala., the second of seven children. When he was 18 years old, he joined the Army. He fought in the Korean War where he reached the rank of corporal and was awarded two Purple Hearts. In 1954, he met and married Wynema. He was a longtime employee at Wells Fargo as a security supervisor. He loved his family dearly. Next to spending time with them, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and cruising on his river boat.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
