Charles CJ Jones Higgins

Charles Jones Higgins, age 87, of Northport, died March 29, 2011, at Hunter Creek Health & Rehabilitation. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park with Chaplain Don Sanders and Mr. Robert Argersinger officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Beulah Higgins; and his brothers, Barksdale Higgins, Jimmie Higgins, and Owens Higgins.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mildred A. Higgins of Northport; his daughter, Debbie Argersinger (Robert) of Vernon; his sons, Larry Higgins (Sally) of Gordo and Mike Higgins (Debra) of Northport; his sister, Annie Lee Springfield of Vernon; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Known as C.J., Charles was born in Lamar County July 28, 1923. He worked for Gulf States Paper Mill until he retired in 1977. He then drove for several local auto dealers for many years. He was a lifetime member of Northport Church of Christ.

Pallbearers will be Chris Higgins, Taylor Higgins, Chris Jones, Heath Higgins, Ricky Noland, Jessie Sullivan, and Ryan Tucker.

Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Hunter Creek Health & Rehabilitation, employees of the Tuscaloosa plant of Gulf States Paper, and Dr. Mark Woods.
