Chris will be watching and protecting over his adored family, friends, and beloved pets. He will never truly leave the hearts of those he loved.
He is survived by daughters Rosie Adams Scruggs, Ella Rose Scruggs and Kaylynn Brooke Scruggs,
“Daddy” JB Hall, Aunt Bizzy, father Johnnie Scruggs and stepmom Tracy Scruggs. Brothers Johnny Scruggs, Jonathan Smith (Kelli) and Dustin Scruggs (Amy). Sisters Alisa Cook (David), Brandy Burt, Kellie Nelson, and Ashley Scruggs. Uncle Jimmy Dean, many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The mothers of his children Tammy Scruggs and Dezirae Dodson, along with friends he meet along his path of life.
To have known Chris was to have known his distinctive and contagious laugh that could turn any moment into a memory that would echo on forever. A smile that could brighten your day, even could encourage and convince you to go ahead a take a wild blind leap of faith into something challenging or do something new.
His love for the outdoors was something he found both peace and excitement in. He loved sharing these times with his loved ones from being on the lake or playing in the woods as a child to growing into hunting and fishing as he got older. So much so he worked hard and diligently on a pond of his own to enjoy such times at his home with his family and friends.
Chris’s love for animals was true and deep. His childhood epic moments bringing home snakes, frogs, turtles was common and often taking someone by surprise just to hear that certain Chris Scruggs kinda laugh and his beaming smile to go along with it. His dogs were family to him. Through the years Tasha, Tara, Moose, Abby, Marlie, and Zues all willing to stand as protectors of him as he was always a protector of them.
Chris’s knowledge, talent and passion for all things motorized was a life in itself. Learning first hand from his grandfather, uncles and stepdad at a young age. Chris developed these skills and talents to tackle any repair or job a vehicle was in need of. We all remember his old Ford Fairlane and his trucks and how thrilled he was to own them. Many of us had to give him a call for last minute help on a vehicle and you could consider it done, he was gonna fix it. His love for just a drive down an old road was total freedom for him. If there was one thing his siblings and him loved doing growing up was just simply running the roads windows down, music going and smiles. Not looking for trouble just that pure feeling of freedom in the air and in your heart and soul.
Above all Chris loved the Lord and his family. His family being blended was vast and wide. Each member having their own connection with him. He had a way of making everyone feel loved and special. His siblings knew if they ever needed someone to back them up or even lift them up he was willing. When speaking of his daughters one could feel the love he had for them. It was immeasurable. He was so proud and excited to be a dad. They were a dream come true for him. His love for the Lord was always in his heart. He was raised with his grandfather’s Bible at the dinner table. He would share with you God’s love and God’s work is real and miracles do happen.
As we honor Chris let us remember each day, each moment truly is a gift we are given. We have a choice to take in every moment and treasure it. We have the chance and the will to get back up and try again even we with our faults, failures, losses and disappointments. We have the chance to love and be loved. All of which gives us reflection, redemption, wisdom and hope. Our love for one another, love for life, love for God is the true gift we receive in our lifetimes.
We know one day Chris will meet us at gates with a big grin waiting to take us on a ride to show us the glorious roads in Heaven… the truest roads to freedom.
