Darlene Dee Spell Owens, age 53, of Northport, died May 19, 2010, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Bowers and friends officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David Walden Spell and Inez Newberry Spell, her son, Thomas Owens, and her daughter, Adena Dee Owens.
Survivors include her husband, Dick Owens; her daughter, Deandra Dee Owens of Northport; and her brother, David Walden Spell, Jr. of Akron.
Mrs. Owens worked for the Naval and Oceanographic Society prior to becoming an LPN in 1984 and entering into the healthcare provider service. She was a generous anonymous supporter of various charities and social services.
Honorary pallbearers are Alex Martinez, Arlon Kannas, Ritchie Tipton, and John Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Capitol School of Tuscaloosa, 2828 6th St., Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
