Do what is right. Love mercy. Walk humbly with God. The words of Micah the prophet define the very essence of our beloved father, grandfather, & friend, Floyd Gillman Duncan. A devoted husband, a loving father, a patient grandfather, a humble servant of his community, a loyal friend, and a living example of the grace & mercy of Christ. Floyd closed his eyes in rest on March 5th, 2024, and woke to see His Savior & all of Heavens splendor. The pains of this life were left behind as he entered the gates, and though we grieve, we are comforted by the promise that Floyd was welcomed by Jesus Christ as he took his first step in eternity.
Services to commemorate the life of Floyd will be held Tuesday, March 12th at 1pm at Yellow Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to the service.
Awaiting Floyd in Heaven were many loved ones to whom he meant so much: his parents, Arrie & Essie Duncan, his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Duncan, and his son, Bryon Duncan. As their reunion commenced in sweet joy & celebration, those who remain will cherish his memory and continue his legacy of faith & family: his daughter, Lori Duncan Burnett (Greg), grandchildren April (Niki), Duncan Simmons (Andy), Rusty Duncan (Tera), Katie Burnett, Duncan Burnett, & Lauren Burnett, his great-grand children Andrea Simmons Aldridge (Kyle), Austin Simmons (Cameron), Alaina Simmons, Kylie Duncan, & Rylan Duncan, his great-grandson Brantlee Aldridge, and his grandson-in-love, Richard Childers (Tiffany, Logan, & Rusty Wade).
Floyd was a man of great talent & skill. No matter the job-building homes, cabinetry, growing a garden, raising cattle, pruning roses-Floyd's workmanship was unmatched. His work ethic & commitment to excellence was undeniable. He was a plumber, carpenter, & a farmer who never failed to finish the job even when it seemed physically impossible that he could. Ailment was not a restraint for his drive & determination. He was an overcomer who found a way when there was none. Time after time, Floyd endured challenge & tragedy, and each proved only to fuel his strength to continue. Though he will be remembered in many different ways & for a multitude of reasons, the echo of his influence in the lives of his loved ones & friends will serve as a reminder of all that he represented - doing right, being merciful, & walking humbly with God.
Escorting Floyd to his earthly resting place will be Daniel Cunningham, Tracy Tierce, Oviatt Cunningham, Jerry Turner Jr, Mike Herring, & Josh Chandler.
Our family would like to express the utmost gratitude to those who have been a part this journey alongside us & who have held a special place in Floyd's life over the years: Members of Wilderness Pines Hunting Club, Yellow Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Yellow Creek Baptist Church & Community, 1955 TCHS classmates, Dr Wesley Spruill & DCH Spine Care, Beth & Joel Chandler, Amedisys Home Health (nurse Jess), Dr Dahya & Cardiology Associates staff, Dr Stephen Browne & staff, Dr Donnie Scott & family, John & Martha Warner, Ms Betty Rogers, Alex Pinion, Lowndes Sinkler, & Tanner Ostler.
