

COKER | Gene Boswell, age 82, of Coker, passed away and went home to be with the Lord April 24, 2015, at home surrounded by family and friends. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015, at Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church in Echola with Rev. Max Stripling officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, A Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight, April 26, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Tull and Eva Boswell; brother, James Boswell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Nota Springer; and brother-in-law, Richard Bailey.
He is survived by his wife, Cherrye Ravenelle Boswell; sons, Michael Boswell (Vanessa), Alan Boswell (Leigh), and Dennis Boswell; sister, Evanell Rainey (Maurice); sisters-in-law, Annie Pearl Bailey, Elaine Stripling, Luanne Bailey Springer, and Glenna Clements; brothers, Carl (Marilyn) and Ray Boswell (Sherrie); brothers-in-law, Max Stripling, Lynwood Springer, and Gene Clements; and grandchildren, John Michael Boswell (Beka Chastain), Kyle Boswell, and Samuel Boswell.
Gene was born July 29, 1932, and was raised in the Moore’s Bridge and Echola communities. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. Gene served most of his adult life in law enforcement with the Tuscaloosa County Sherriff’s Department, Tuscaloosa County Warrant Magistrate, and finally retiring from the Tuscaloosa District Attorney’s Office.
Gene was a loving and great husband, father, grandfather, and a true friend to many. He will surely be missed.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, John Michael Boswell, Kyle Boswell, Samuel Boswell, brother-in-law, Lynwood Springer, and friends, Dave Anders, Mike Cartee, Clark Summerford, Tommy Smith, William Tinker, and Harold Arrowood.
Honorary pallbearers are Charlie and Annette Freeman, Senator Richard Shelby, Rufus and Debbie King, Rodney King, Gerald Kimbrough, June Arrowood, George Hanks, Dr. Leonard Jones and staff of Tuscaloosa Internal Medicine, Dr. Anne Lewis, staff 6th Floor DCH Regional Medical Center, past and present employees of Tuscaloosa County Courthouse, and all past and present Law Enforcement Personnel of Tuscaloosa County.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one’s favorite charity in memory of Gene Boswell, or Dunn’s Creek Baptist Cemetery Fund 17477 Brown Dairy Rd., Elrod, AL 35458.
