Harvey Alan Sims

Harvey was born in Fayette, AL., on July 1, 1950. He graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1968. He married the love of his life, Debbie, on November 20, 1970. He started work as a lineman at Alabama Power on November 23, 1970. He retired in January 2006 after 35 plus years. His greatest joy come from his family especially his four granddaughters. He fought long and hard to be there for all his girls.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Deborah Avent Sims; two daughters, Tara Sims and Mandi Mitchell (Steven); four grandchildren, Haley Mitchell (Garrin), Katie Cox (Ezra), Caroline Cox, and Rebekah Mitchell.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Frances Sims, and sister, Marilyn Coker.

A visitation for Harvey will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, AL 35473, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM with Bro. Eric Boykin and Bro. Glenn Kennedy officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Steven Mitchell, Ezra Harbison, Garrin Pinion, Byron Bell, Barry Battle, and Keith Hubbert.

Honorary Pallbearers are Alabama Power Company, friends of Mt. Olive community, Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. George Miller, Dr. John Miller and staff, Dr. Hinton, Haley Tipps, CRNP., and staff of Manderson Cancer Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Manderson Cancer Center.
