

JACKSONS GAP – Jack Stephens Cook, of Jacksons Gap, Ala., born in Anniston, Ala., died January 21, 2017, at Chapman Healthcare in Alexander City, Ala. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be from 12:30 until the time of service at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis June Maxwell Cook; mother, Elvie Mae Walker Cook; and father, James Cook.Survivors include his daughter, Kelley Denise Cook; sons, David Maxwell Cook (Rachel) and Dustin Eugene Cook (Angie); brother-in-law, Rick Maxwell (Cindy); nephew, Rob Maxwell (Beth); nieces, Hannah Maxwell and Susan Maxwell; grandchildren, Jessica Morgan (Miles), Cody Hill (Morgan), Bruin Hathcock and Bry Hathcock; and great-granddaughter, Miley Morgan.Jack received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Jacksonville State, Master's from the University of Alabama and served in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966.He was a dedicated teacher and coach for nearly 40 years. He worked for Brookwood, Pickens County, Tuscaloosa County, Childersburg, Newton County, Ga., Talladega, Haralson County, Ga. He also worked with the American Legion Boys States for over 40 years.Pallbearers will be Rodney Brown, Robert Humphreys, Jerry Wright, Mike Davidson, Marvin Kennedy, Buster Kizziah, Will Hill, Judge Pete Johnson and Alan Dunkling.Honorary pallbearers are all former players and fellow coaches, Boys State staff, Jacksonville High School Class of 1962 and Northport First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Eagles' Wings, Inc., Wounded Warrior Project or Northport First United Methodist Church.
