John D Lowery

John Daniel Lowery, Jr., age 87, of Woodstock, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. He was born in Lockhart, AL in 1936 to Jimmie Barrow Tollison Lowery and John Daniel Lowery, Sr. He graduated from Elba High School and later received a Bachelor's degree from Troy State University. After receiving his degree from Troy State University, he attended the University of Alabama to obtain his Master's degree.

While pursuing his Master's degree, he married the love of his life, Barbara Hester, on August 2, 1964. They were married for 26 years until she passed away in February of 1990. He worked as a rehabilitation counselor with the vocational rehabilitation services until his retirement. After his retirement, he enjoyed day trading, beach vacations, and spending time with his two daughters and their children.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Lowery (Mother) and John D. Lowery, Sr. (Father); and wife, Barbara Lowery.

John is survived by daughters, Alicia Lowery (Becky) and Joanna Lowery RouLaine; sister, Janice Lowery Kalec; and grandchildren, Malia Lowery-Hurtado, Madeline Lowery- Hurtado, Delmar Hurtado, Austin Hurtado, Josiah Liam RouLaine, and Emma Josie RouLaine.

Visitation for John will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Sunset Memorial Park, 3802 Watermelon Road, Northport, Alabama 35473, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 PM.

Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Bogardus, Joey Carter, Slade Prisoc, Liam RouLaine, Chad Smith, and Hayden Toler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Barbara Hester Lowery Memorial Endowed Scholarship at The University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing.
