

He got called home to Glory on Saturday, October 10, 2015. He dedicated his life to the service of others. From early years out of high school serving the community to his distinguished service in the Army in Vietnam where he was awarded numerous medals, to his 30+ years of service to his community as Chief of Mt Olive Fire Dept.
He is survived by his children, Gayla and Jason Abernathy and Paula and Mark Price; grandchildren, J.C. and Katelyn Abernathy and Sarah and Sophia Price; brother, Tommy Michalski (Brenda); nieces Christina Muir (Blake), Wendy Cox (Kevin); and the two best junior firefighters a chief could ask for, Braeden Smith and Hayden Cox.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Michalski, Jason Abernathy, Mark Price, J.C. Abernathy, Kevin Cox, and Charlie Hardin.
Honorary pallbearers are James Smith, Cindy Smith, Roy Powell, the Mt Olive Fire Department, the Mt Olive community, the Tusc County Fire Association, the AFGE UNION and the rest of the Tuscaloosa VAMC.
Our dad believed, lived and wanted to share JOHN 3:16 and he would invite you to know the Lord if you don't already.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, and funeral services will be Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Mt Olive Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour before.
