

NORTHPORT | John Doyle Tierce, age 87, of Northport, passed away November 21, 2014, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2014, at Sunset Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Mr. Tierce was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lura; a brother, W.C. Tierce; a sister, Reba Gilliam; and his two sons, Stephen Michael Tierce and John Doyle Tierce, Jr. (Johnny).
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his daughters, Gayla Hurter (Bill), Paula Bigham (Terry); daughters-in-law, Melissa Mitchell and Lynn Morrison (L.W.); his grandchildren, Michael Tierce (Svea), Mandy Dockery (Stephen), Matthew Tierce (Sheila), Melei Renicks (Matthew), John Tyler Bigham (Ashley), Anna Kelly (JJ), Katy Metcalfe (Blake), Chris Hurter (Robin), and Emma Morrison; his great-grandchildren, Libby Tierce, Aaron Tierce, Ellie Dockery, Savannah Dockery, Morgan Dockery, Micaela Tierce, Max Tierce, Brock Renicks, Carson Renicks, Ava Renicks, Sayge Trimm, Halyn Bigham, Saydi Jo Bigham, and Carson Hurter; and sisters, Eunice Lunceford and Evelyn Oswalt.
Mr. Tierce worked with his father and family in their cotton gin in Samantha, Alabama for many years. He later got into the service station business and if he wasn’t working on cars you would find him at the Krispy Kreme or the Waffle House.
Mr. Tierce loved his family and old Chevrolet cars. He knew everything there was to know about how to fix them.
Pallbearers will be Terry Bigham, Bill Hurter, Douglas Jones, John Tyler Bigham, Matthew Tierce and JJ Kelly.
Honorary pallbearers are Buddy and Judi Watkins, Bobby and Patsy Hallman, Bubba and Connie Rester, Tommy and Regina Croft, David Sheff, Judy Ellwanger, A.L. Swindle, Northport Church of God, friends and relatives in the Samantha community, Dr. Brian Wilhite and special thanks to Amedisys Home Health, friends and neighbors of Candlewood Subdivision.
