Joseph “Mike” Waldrop, age 60, of Northport, died May 5, 2011, at home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Damon Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph C.; his stepmother, Kat; his son, Kenneth; and an infant brother.
Survivors include his wife, Hallie; his daughter, Michelle Wooten (Ricky); his son, Michael J. (Wendy); his sisters, Deborah Waldrop and Peggy Suddath (Doug); his mother, Jeanette Harris Simpler; and his grandchildren, Christopher and Claudia Waldrop, Kenneth, Ashley, and Adam Mathews, and Hailey Wooten.
Mike was born in Tuscaloosa, where he lived until he was 18. He moved to south Florida, married, and raised a family. In 1984 he married Hallie and brought his family to three children. He moved back to Tuscaloosa in 2000 to be with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Amedisys Hospice or the American Cancer Society .
