

She was preceded in death by her parents Silas and Cora Hallman Gray Smelley Fields and stepfather Nicholas Smelley; her loving husband of 44 years Freddie B. Smith; son Doug Smith; grandson Nick Evans and Dennis Holemon like a grandson; five brothers and their wives. She later remarried and is also preceded in death by W.D. Montgomery and Curtis Watson.
She is survived by her caring daughters Cherry Smith Holemon (Glenn) and Judy Smith Evans (George); brother Jerry Smelley (Gladys); grandchildren Alisa Smith Cook (David), Jonathan Smith (Kelli), Nicole Holemon Jones (Adam), Natalie Holemon Adams (Joshua), Jessica Ann Evans Phillips (Hunter); grand daughter-in-law Jamie Clayton Evans; Regina Wheeler Gant (Leroy) like a granddaughter; Eric Swanson (Hannah) like a grandson; great grandchildren Mackenzie Jones Carden (Travis), Cody Jones, Benjamin Adams, Abigail Adams, Rhett Phillips, Annabelle Phillips, Miller Evans, Fisher Evans, Silas Evans, Taylor Lagonell, Adam Smith, Chloe Smith and Caroline Gant like a great-granddaughter; great-great grandchildren Aleena Bond and River Lagonell. Special members of the W.D. Montgomery and Curtis Watson families.
Lougene was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and affectionately known as MawMaw to many. She taught us how to love unconditionally and put others before ourselves. Mother was a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served the Lord teaching and ministering through various capacities. She was a member of the Lola Johnson Sunday School class for 40 years. She loved her community and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 15, 2024 10:30am at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Service at 12:00pm. Burial to follow at Bone Camp Methodist Church cemetery. Services officiated by Bro. Tim Tindle, Bro. Eric Boykin, Bro. Glenn Kennedy and Bro. Terrell Jones.
