Luther W. Colburn

TUSCALOOSA – Luther W. Colburn, age 90, died November 4, 2016, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Sanford, Rev. David Fletcher and rev. Ken Cheeks officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 7, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Colburn; his parents, George and Mary Colburn; brothers, Chester Robinson, Willie Burly, Joe Dellie, Vaughan Luna Colburn; one sister, Ethel Colburn Fikes; grandson, Chris Jacobs; and son-in-law's, Henry Smith and Aubrey Jacobs.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda C. Jacobs, Brenda C. Hoggle (Jerry), Sharon C. Pruitt (James); son, Lowell Dwayne Colburn (Brenda); grandchildren, Byron Jacobs, DJ (Daryle) Jacobs, Robin Skelton, Suzanne Pearson, Melody Arrowood, Jackie Long, Jaena Shuttlesworth, Jermey Hoggle, Amanda Cole, Jeremy Colburn, Heather Meggs and Johnathan Pruitt; 35 great-granchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild.

He was a WWII veteran serving in the Navy. He retired from BF Goodrich where he worked many years. He was a Christian and was a lifelong member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Byron Jacobs, Daryle Jacobs, Johnathan Pruitt, Jeremy Colburn, John Pearson, Justin Skelton, West Meggs, Jeremy Hoggle and Brian Shuttlesworth.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, friends and neighbors of Carolwood Lakeview Drive, Staff of Alacare Home Health Care and Dr. Gene Aldredge.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
