Martha Godfrey Shelton

NORTHPORT Martha Godfrey Shelton, age 72, of Northport, died June 8, 2010. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Five Points Baptist Church with Ben Jameson and Billy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin D. Shelton; her parents, Willis and Trannie Godfrey; three brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include her sons, Mitch (Carol), Randy (Lane), and Dennis (Donna) Shelton; her sisters, Gladys Sims, Louise Maddox, Colleen Roberts, and Barbara Kellerman; her brother, Ed Godfrey; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Martha worked for BellSouth for 30 years and volunteered at Camp Bluebird for many years. She was an active member of Five Points Baptist Church and blessed all who heard her sing.

Her greatest joys were her family, her dog, and her roses. Her sweet, loving spirit blessed all who knew her, and she will be missed by all.

Pallbearers will be Curt Shelton, Tyler Shelton, Carson Shelton, Connor Shelton, Carter Shelton, Josh Tingle, Rusty Norwood, and Jimmy McElhaney.

Honorary pallbearers are Bobby and Ruth Jones, Shirley Rice, Xi Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, the Grace Sunday School Class, Warren and Billie Barton, Five Points Baptist Church, and Donna Sanchez.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association .
