NORTHPORT | Robert L. Maddox, age 78, of Northport, Alabama, died April 13, 2015, at DCH Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Piney Woods Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 15, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis A. Maddox; mother, Mabel Eleanor Maddox; sisters, Imogen Hewitt and Sarah Ann Maddox; brother, Rayburn Maddox; son, Randall G. Maddox; granddaughter, Angel Maddox; and great-granddaughter, Kenzlyn Maddox. Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Hamm (Larry) and Regina Maddox; son, Robert D. Maddox; sisters, Joyce D. Pollett; and grandchildren, Wes Hamm, Allison Thornton (Derek), Nikki Short (Mike), Justin Barrett, Nathan Oswalt, Tiffany Valdez (Mike), Randall Maddox, and Katie Maddox.He was born and raised in the Piney Woods community of northern Tuscaloosa County. He a a master glass cutter for Shatterproof Glass in Detroit, Mich., before returning to Alabama to work for Gulf States Paper. He was a strong but gentle man who loved his family. He believed his word was the backbone of his integrity and believed it was better than a firm handshake. His family and friends knew him by his passion to tinker on cars. He was a master of his hobby. To his community, he was Mr. Fix It, always willing to help someone in need. He was many things to many people. Most importantly, he was a child of the Most High. He loved the Lord and now heaven is his eternal home.Pallbearers will be Wes Hamm, Randy Maddox, Justin Barrett, Nathan Oswalt, Buggs Pollett, Tony Pollett, and Larry Hamm. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and family of the Piney Woods, Windham Springs and Samantha communities; nurses and staff of Northport Medical Center and the nurses and staff Northport Medical Center LTAC Unit, Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit; lifelong friends of Robert Brodgen; and nurses, Kim Dockery, Michele Rucker, Teresa Steerman, and Matt Hoffsinger.
