Vidmer Burns Jr.

GREENSBORO | Vidmer Burns, Jr., age 71, died October 16, 2015, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015, at Sunset Funeral Home, A Dignity Memorial Provider, with Steve Vernon officiating, and Sunset Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, with the funeral home directing. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lyna Burns; grandson, Jay Raines, mother, Ruth Burns; father, Vidmer Burns; and his brother, William C. Burns.

Survivors include his sons, Victor Burns (Mary) and Steven Burns (Jeanne); daughter, Stacia Burns; sisters, Patsy Lee Hallman (Willis), Peggy Booth (John) and Diane Burns Earnest; and grandchildren, Jack Burns, Kathryn Burns, Elizabeth Burns and Lane Burns.

He was born June 16, 1944. He graduated from Gordo High School in 1964. He served his country in the Army from 1964 to 1970. He was married to Lyna Tunnel Burns for 41 years. He was inducted into the Gordo Greenwave Football Hall of Fame January 8, 2005. He was involved in several community organizations. He was loved and respected by family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Blake Cargile, Kenny Pike, Mark Burns, Cody Burns, Caleb Burns and Trey Collier.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Turnbow, Tim Booth and Lane Burns.

In lieu of flowers, condolences can be sent to the family.
