Beloved Son of Christine and Nick Gorenc, Brother of Kathereen (Gorenc) and Roberto Hernandez, Uncle of Justine and Vivienne Hernandez, and of Simone and Manos Giannios. He is also loved and fondly remembered by numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins worldwide.
Alex embraced life, and his passions for travel, knowledge and learning were exceeded only by his love for family and friends. For all, Alex was a loving, cherished treasure and is graciously described as caring, loyal, generous and devoted. Blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, all enjoyed his indomitable spirit, zest for life and charismatic smile. He was a dedicated student of school and life. He proudly graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2003, where he spent some of his most favorite years. Following college, he dove into work embarking a career in sales and account management. It was also during these years that he fulfilled one of his dreams, to travel afar visiting South and Central America, Asia and Europe. He was truly a citizen of the world at heart. But nowhere else captured his heart as much as his beloved Greece, and especially his ancestral village of Stoupa, where he was blessed with the most amazing childhood and youth summers full of adventure, culture, fun, beauty and shenanigans with cousins and friends. From those early years, Alex developed his appreciation for celebrating life’s big and small moments, and the people for whom he cared and loved. He was a master of ceremonies with his ability to inject life into a gathering through his food, laughter and music. Over the last decade, he proudly took on a role of co-chef during the holidays, creating memorable feasts.
Alex was deeply devoted to his family and friends. During his life, many of them experienced difficult situations and they appreciated the comfort and support Alex quietly and privately gave them in their time of need. And in turn, he accepted - with genuine gratitude - the guidance and grace offered to him. For many others, he will always be appreciated for encouraging and inspiring their personal growth, or for instilling in them the confidence and drive to achieve during their formative years, and later.
Similar to his personal life, Alex was respected and appreciated by those for whom he worked and those who worked with him. Always reflecting optimism, he received recognition and awards for his work ethic and exemplary demeanor.
He will be missed beyond measure, and his memory will be eternal. His family is comforted in their faith and knowing that those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.
A funeral service for Alexander will be held Thursday, December 21st. at 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 9501 Balboa Blvd., Northridge, California 91325. Following the funeral service will be a committal service at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen St., Chatsworth, California 91311.
