

Early in his career, Darrell joined the United States Army and later enlisted the US Navy. He served on many ships including the USS AJAX. He was honorably discharged in May 1956.
In August 1956, Darrell married his sweetheart, Betty Riordan and they began their wonderful life and family.
Darrell worked as an assembler for Lockheed Aircraft. He attended California State University, Los Angeles where he earned a Bachelor of Vocational Education. He put his education and passion for teaching to work at Culver City High School where he taught Industrial Arts for 14 years. His quest for knowledge continued. He earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Education from Pepperdine University. Later, Darrell decided to leave the teaching profession and join private industry. He worked as a Tool and Die Maker, Machinist, Machine Programmer and Designer at companies including Roto Master and James B. Lansing Sound (JBL).
Darrell served as a founding member and active supporter of Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind (TLC), the first residence designed for people challenged with developmental disabilities and blindness. He also participated in many ministries at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church including Eucharistic Minister, saxophone player with the Harmonia Choir and a member of the Men’s Club. Darrell generously donated his time by sharing handyman and woodworking talents with those in need. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid golfer.
Darrell was a loving husband and dedicated father. He is survived by his wife Betty, five children, Tim, Dennis (Deborah), Katie (Jim), Larry and Jerry (Shelly); eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sister Martha and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Northridge, California.
