Janie Schaefer

• Janie (Jones) Schaefer, 85 of Mission Hills, California, peacefully passed away on Saturday April 17,

2022, at home with family, from complications of Lung Cancer. She was born September 6,1936,in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Janie was the daughter of Raymond Stuart Jones and Audrey Alice Barker. She married John Joseph Vincent Paul Schaefer of Evansville, Indiana on July 6th, 1953. Janie was a homemaker and working mother. She was also a devout Catholic.

Janie worked in Indiana and California hospitals, as a Ward Clerk Transcriber and Nursing Assistant, at Deaconess Hospital -Indiana, Serra Memorial in Sun Valley, CA and Kaiser Permanente in Panorama City, CA.

Courageous and determined, in 1972, Janie & her husband moved to California with seven children. She provided for her family and prospered. After retirement, she operated a craft shop. She helped various family members with childcare and medical care. Her hobbies included sewing of cosplay costumes, crafts, pottery and crocheting blankets, Care Bears and various animals for pediatric hospitals.

She is survived by her sons, John and Joseph (Joe), daughters Cathy, and Ann Marie all of Lancaster, CA, and Amelia (Amy) of Mission Hills CA, sister Julie Gross of Redding, CA. Her daughters Elizabeth (Liz) and Alice preceded her in death. Janie had 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in California at a later date
