John Edwin Miller was born on August 20, 1945 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Edwin Henry Miller and Elizabeth Boyd. In 1946, the family moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin where John lived until 1955. The family relocated to the San Fernando Valley in California where John attended Taft High School. John was a gifted athlete while at Taft.
On April 16th, 1966 he married the love of his life from Dublin, Ireland, Margaret Mary Douglas (Rita), at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church in Reseda, California. Shortly thereafter he began military service in the Army where he spent time abroad in Korea. John was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
John was an amazing chef and spent over 50 years in the hospitality business serving as a general manager for various restaurants throughout his career. While John could whip up just about anything in the kitchen, his soups were pure perfection. He loved sports, especially watching his sons when they competed in AYSO, Little League and high school. John was thrilled when the Dodgers won the World Series in 2020.
His retirement brought him great joy as it enabled him to spend more time with his beloved grandchildren, Owen and Alannah. He was a family man first and foremost. A devoted husband for 54 years, father and grandfather (Papa), John supported, guided and loved his family unconditionally. His warmth, kind heart, laugh and cooking will be dearly missed.
