Katie Carlotta Hack was born January 26, 1946 in Monticello, Mississippi to Dewey Newman and Thelma Harris- Newman. Katie was the second oldest of eight children. While living in Mississippi three(3) more little Newmans were born. Having an enterprising and willing father ( Dewey), left Mississippi and headed north to Indiana where she spent her early formative years of her education. Again the itch hit and the family moved to Los Angeles, California, where Katie attended Lincoln High School. There she became a social butterfly and was very active. She also discovered that she had leadership abilities and served on the student council.
During the summer, the family moved to Compton, California, where Katie attended Walton Junior High and later Compton High School. While at Compton High School, Katie was a member of the drill team. After graduation from Compton High School, class of 1963, she attended Compton College and California State University - Los Angeles earning a B.S in Psychology. It was at Compton College that she met her future husband Solomon Hack. They were married April 6 1968 and from this union two children Bridgette and Brian were born.
After working as a counselor for a few year, Katie went back to college to pursue another degree. Earning a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, Katie became known in the valley as "DR KC" and lectured seminars on a regular basis. She was small in stature, but had amazing strength, strong hands and the touch of an angel.
Daily, she and her sister Brenda could spend hours solving world problems and playing pharmacist on which medication really worked. No medication taken before reading about possible side affects associated with that prescription drug. If you didn't want her true opinion, you had better not ask. Katie was a master of her craft to ensure her patients were getting the best treatments available.
She was well respected in her community and gave back as so many had given to her. Katie was a great mother, mentor and friend. She enjoyed reading, listening to all types of music, dancing, skiing, experimental cooking (smile), and eating out at fine restaurants
On April 7, 2016 Katie was called home. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Durr Newman and sister Glenell White.
