Roy Benjamin “Ben” Leake was born in Pasadena on April 1, 1925 to Victor and Ethel Leake and had four brothers and one sister. He attended Venice High, but quit school to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served four years as an aviation machinist and got his high school diploma in the process. Ben started working at the age of nine and continued until age 80. He married Caryl at the age of 26, and had two children, LuAnn and Roy. After working as a carpenter for several years, he got his contractor’s license and started R.B. Leake Construction Company where he specialized in home remodels primarily in the Pacific Palisades. He never once advertised, but had a steady stream of referral business for over forty years. Ben loved his work and never wanted to retire. He and Caryl were members of three churches in their 65 years together and he served in leadership at all three. Ben loved Jesus and had a deep desire to help others know and love Him too. His favorite role as an elder at Hollywood Presbyterian, their church of the past thirty-four years, was praying with people after Sunday service and sharing the importance of walking with Christ. He loved spending time with his family, fishing and camping, eating at good restaurants, playing cards, and being with people. Ben was a loving, dedicated husband, wonderful father, and extraordinary grandpa. He is survived by his wife, Caryl, daughter and son-in-law, LuAnn and Eric Malcolm, and two grandsons, Ryan and Paul.
