Antoinette Salpietro

She was born on June 21, 1927, the daughter of Joseph Napoleon Normand and Josephine (Tramontozzi) Formiglio. She was married to George H. Salpietro on April 10, 1948 and was happily married for 67 years until he passed on May 26, 2015.

She was the matriarch of the family, who raised three boys who adored her and taught them the importance of family providing them with a great role model for parenting that they would carry forward to their own families. In addition to her loving mother, she was the joy of her many aunts and relatives who spent much time with her. Her pride and joy and her legacy was her children, their wives, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved her greatly. She was the favorite aunt, cousin, and "Naunie" to her grandchildren as well as many people who adopted her as their own grandmother.

She had very close ties with her only brother, Joseph Normand, who lived in the apartment downstairs for many years and the many relatives who lived next door and within short distances from her.

She is survived by her son Gary and is wife Georgene of Hiram, Maine, her son George and his wife Marie of Colchester, her son David and his wife Marie of Norwich, three grandchildren, August Michaud and her husband Steve of Colchester, Lance Salpietro of Griswold, Stacy Salpietro-Babb and her husband Wesley of Brattleboro, VT, as well as six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband George Salpietro and her brother Joseph Normand.

The family is eternally grateful for the caring, empathy and support by the nurses and caregivers at Hospice who provided guidance and support during the difficult days prior to her passing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 30th at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, 211 Broadway, Norwich, CT at 10am meeting directly at the church. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich. Calling hours will be held Monday, Aug. 29th from 5-7pm at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT.
