Such a beautiful, rich soul. You are loved and missed, my friend.

We worked together at Reliance House for 5 years. I had heard a lot about you at work (all good things) before we finally met when we sat next to each other at an employees' Christmas dinner. I knew immediately that you were a powerful, honest and good person, and from then on, every time we got together, for lunch or to do a little shopping, it felt like a mini-adventure.  We always had plenty of things to talk about, from the mundane to the highly spiritual, and there was a high level of trust between us. I remember a very special day we spent together at the Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield,  and I cherish a memory of going out to lunch with you on your 70th birthday. Barbara, you are a blessed woman with a beautiful family and loyal friends who will always love you. There is a special place in my heart that is reserved just for you.  Always, in my mind I will hear your voice saying, "Get in the car! Let's go!"

Where do I begin? The loss of you is two fold because not only did I lose my mom but you were Me and Kevin’s dad too.  In our eyes you were a force to be reckoned with. We called you Barbara 2.0 because after dad died and we eventually moved from Gales Ferry you told us I am going to make you kids strong, independent and know how to take care of each other. Everything you told us you meant. If we were living somewhere for a year, we did. You would say, “I did what I knew back then, but when you know better, you do better”.
     The life lessons you instilled in us not only made us the strong people we are today but defined our character as human beings in this world. You always made sure we loved others and even the people we didn’t always like. You start by saying, “ Never say you hate someone, you may not like them for what they represent but never hate”. You would always tell me “Susie pray for them”. Easier said then done I tell you. I can recall saying no I am pretty sure I hate them. Hahha. But again always enforcing love.
      You taught me how to say “no” to people when I wasn’t so out spoken back then. You would ask “ what are you afraid of”? Tell them, “ no I am sorry, I can’t do this or that”. I was always afraid to hurt someone’s feelings. You gave us the ability to view things in life through a different lens. Allowing  us to be free to love and embrace all life. Your support for us and even myself was always unwavering. You believed me when nobody else did and believed in me when I couldn’t see my way.
 You amazed me how you took charge when people tried to test you. I recall when you had to defend me because of peoples personal options and viewpoints of me when I had Danielle. You were the strongest person I ever knew and I wanted to be like you. People weren’t used to seeing a woman like you. Everything I am today and will become I owe to you. To Barbara's Family,
One word comes to mind when i think of her and that word is FUN! She was always open for an adventure and would hop in the car and the laughs began. God bless her and her family.

Every memory of Aunt Barbara is a good one. My favorite was almost a couple of years ago when I saw the family and she told me how much she loved when I visited her and Uncle Russ when I was little. She said how much fun I was and I listened so well. It meant so much to me. She always made me feel loved. I’m so glad I got to be loved by her and have her in my life from the beginning. 

Barbara was such a sweet person. She will be sadly missed,  but fondly remembered.  My deepest sympathies.
