

Cal was born November 25, 1922, in San Jose, California to the late Benjamin and Matilda Cobb. After high school graduation he joined the Navy and proudly served during World War II and Korea.
After the war, he settled in Norwich and joined the Norwich fire department, where he worked for over 30 years before finally retiring as Deputy Chief. After retirement Cal continued working, including employment with the Norwich Savings Society/People’s Bank and Falvey’s Motors. He was an accomplished handyman who enjoyed working on his house and yard. Cal also was an avid tennis player who played well into his 80s. Besides tennis he also enjoyed cheering for the New York Yankees and watching the History Channel.
On March 17, 1945 he was united in marriage to the former Beatrice Y. Pedace. They were married for 63 years before her passing on March 9, 2009. They had four children together Sandra Cobb of Groton, April Campbell (Dave) of North Carolina, Jill Cobb of Norwich {with whom he made his home} and Calvin Cobb of Preston . He is also survived by 6 grandchildren (Lauren, Maresa, Gretchen , Jonathan, Calvin and Derek), eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sister- in- laws Elizabeth Cobb and Marge Cobb of California, brother in-law John Pedace (Estelle) of Wisconsin and special friends including Pam Smith, Valerie Murphy, Brenda Altman and Steve John.
Besides his wife Calvin was also predeceased by his brothers Tommy Cobb and Ed Cobb of San Jose, California.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 6th at 1pm at the Cathedral of St. Patrick, 213 Broadway Norwich, meeting directly at the church. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors. Calling hours are Thursday, March 5th from 5pm to 7pm at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his favorite charity, the Salvation Army in Norwich, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
