Dorothy Britton

She was born July 13, 1917 in Norwich, CT, to the late Benjamin and Ethel Mattos. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Britton.

Dorothy attended St. Patrick’s Cathedral and was a member of Colchester Bible Baptist Church.

She retired from Backus Hospital after 10 years of service. She continued her employment at Norwich Motel until her retirement in 1997.

She is survived by her children, Carol (Carl) Shepherd of Waterford, CT, John (Lenora) Britton of Smiths Creek, MI, Sue Britton of Norwich, CT, and George (Helen) Britton of Green Cove Springs, FL.

She is also survived by three sisters, Gertrude Walton of Macomb, IL, Ethel Mercier of Norwich, CT and Mildred Avery of Norwich, CT.

She was a loving Grandmother to Tammy (Vernon) Skau, Carl (Luanne) Shepherd, Sabrina Simpson, Audrey (Scott) Weston, James Simpson, John (Joy) Britton, Kevin Britton, Kellie (Craig) King, and Matthew Britton, as well as several great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Church and Allen Funeral Home in Norwich at 1 pm.

Burial will be held at a later date.
