Dorothy A. Christie

Dorothy Anna (Zachgo) Christie, 91, of Oakdale, Connecticut passed away on Tuesday, March 4th surrounded by loving family. Dorothy was born February 15, 1934 in North Bergen, New Jersey, the daughter of Richard and Anna (Finke) Zachgo.

Dorothy married George Christie on October 17, 1964 in Maryland. She was happily married for 38 years until the untimely passing of her husband on January 17, 2003. Despite this major loss, Dorothy continued her care of others, including the fostering of numerous children.

Dorothy especially loved building puzzles, crocheting, and baking. Christmas time was one of her favorite times of the year, wherein she would go all out in gift-giving and the baking of her famous apple pie and snickerdoodle cookies. It can be said that wherever Dorothy was, either a child or animal was assuredly in her presence and being cared for. A friendly conversationalist, Dorothy made friends wherever she went and was never afraid to express her opinion.

Remaining to Dorothy’s memory are her 6 children, Phillip, Glen, Jeffrey, George Jr, Richard, and Russell and grandchildren, Alexandria, Ava, and Evan.

Preceding Dorothy in death are her husband and older brothers, Richard and Frank Zachgo.

Calling hours/visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT.
