

Dwight Averill Hyde passed away suddenly due to injuries he sustained in a fall at home on Friday, May 19th, 2017. Dwight was the son of Walter Hyde and Esther Hyde (Frink) of Jewett City, CT who predeceased him. He leaves his wife Carol Hyde (Allen), and two sons Frederick Hyde, of Baltic, and Edward Hyde along with grandchildren Andrew, Leila, and Julia Hyde of Waterford, CT as well as many nieces and nephews. Dwight was born May 12, 1941 in Norwich CT and grew up in Jewett City until his marriage to Carol in April of 1969. He graduated from Griswold High School in 1959 where he studied electronics and continued on to graduate from Ward School of Electronics. Early in his career as an electronics technician Dwight worked at E.B., and later at University of Connecticut – Storrs, in his trade until he retired in 1998. Dwight developed a love for music at a very young age. As a child he learned to play the organ and began to play at church services in his teens. He continued on as an organist and often served as the Music Director of the Newent Congregational Church of Lisbon CT for nearly 60 years until his passing. His love for music did not stop there, he would transcribe music from his favorite hymns and added poetry to them, creating his own version of melody and song. Dwight suffered from epilepsy all his life but it never stopped him from pursuing his many interest which included photography, stained glass, and crossword puzzles. Dwight was passionate about photography, he always wanted to have his camera ready to capture the perfect moment. Dwight pursued other arts as well, and crafted a beautiful stained glass display pieces for the church. A gift he shared with his sons was the affinity for tinkering and fixing things. He also enjoyed getting the newspaper daily and completing the crossword, along with his usual crossword books and puzzles. May Jesus, the Lord of Life, raise Dwight to eternal life in heaven, where he will join the angels and saints in their endless hymn of praise. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Tuesday May 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Newent Congregational Church12 S Burnham Hwy, Lisbon, CT 06351 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to your local food bank or the wounded warriors program.
