NORWICH - Eileen was born on March 23, 1923 in Monrovia, CA to James and Hazel Moxley. She had three sisters; Alice, Marianna, and Vanita, a step-father: Ernest Skewes, and several nieces and nephews. She graduated from Salinas Union High School in 1941 where she lettered in tennis, and then attended Salinas Jr. College for one year. After that she moved to San Francisco to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for four years so that she could save up enough money to go to the Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago. She graduated in June of 1948 and then came to Norwich to become the Director of Christian Education at Central Baptist Church where she met her husband Lloyd A. Potter, and has been a member ever since. Lloyd and Eileen were married on April 25th, 1953, and built their home on Canterbury Tnpk., where Eileen continued to live until her death after Lloyd passed away in 2005. She had a wonderful caregiver named Dila who was with her the last four and a half years of her life, which allowed her to remain in her home as were her wishes. There were many challenges for her including a broken hip and Alzhiemers Disease.
Eileen was also a Social Worker, a kindergarten teacher in the Norwich school system, a seamstress, a crafter, and a travel agent. She enjoyed traveling around the country and the globe and was able to see most of the places on her bucket list. She was also an avid bowler and bowled up until she broke her hip in December of 2007.
She is survived by her sister Vanita Brown of Medford, OR, daughter Janet Jeffcoat and son-in-law Rick Jeffcoat of Ledyard, her good friend and frequent travel companion Inger King, and her caregiver Dila Muratova.
A Memorial Service will be held at Central Baptist Church, Union Square, Norwich, on Saturday July 14th at 1:00PM, with reception to follow. If you are able to attend, please wear something purple, her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Baptist Church in her memory.
