Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016.
She was born in Muirhead, Scotland on Feb. 17, 1940, immigrated to the U.S. working as a
Nanny in the New London area. It was there that she met and married her sailor, Joseph Ellis.
They were united in marriage on March 28th, 1964 in New London.
Gina worked for Mr. & Mrs. Charles Gardner and she and Joe were married in their home on 28
Feb 1964. After Joe retired from the Navy, she became a dress maker and business owner at
her own store, “New Beginnings” in Uncasville, CT. Her love of sewing was her way to meet
and become friends with so many. Everyone knew, once you were Gina’s friend, you were her
friend for life and she’d do anything for you. Her joy with sewing also led her to make
costumes for The National Theater of the Deaf and the Spirit of Broadway in Norwich, not to
mention creating beautiful one of a kind wedding gowns for so many brides in the area. When
not actively sewing, she was always helping her friends and was a second mother to her best
friend Jo Johnson’s children. Gina’s happiest times were those spent with her family and
those close friends which gave her so much joy, hope and enthusiasm enduring a multitude of
surgeries over the years.
Besides her husband, Gina is also survived by her 4 sons; Richard, James, Gerald and Joseph
Jr., one brother; James Moran, 3 sisters; Katie, Vicky and Albie Smith, 5 grandchildren;
Madalyn, David, Alex, Nicholas and Fredrick Ellis, many nieces, nephews, customers and
friends including her lifetime friend, Jo Johnson.
Calling hours/visitation will be Thursday, August 4th from 10am until the time of the Memorial
Service at noon at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT. Burial will be
private at the convenience of the family.
