Gertha Reeves Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gertha (Buddy) Reeves of Norwich, CT. on April 22, 2025 at the age of 91. Buddy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was born in Camden, South Carolina on October 26, 1933. He moved to Colchester, CT In 1949 where he lived until he moved his family to Norwich, CT In 1966. He lived there until his passing.

He was a cherished member of the community and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He worked as a trucking steward on construction sites for the Teamsters Local 493 in Uncasville, Ct. Until his retirement. He liked to work on cars and raced them at the Waterford Speed Bowl. He also liked to cook and opened a business called Buddy's B.B.Q. Ribs at the marina in downtown Norwich post-retirement. He did this until he became ill.

He married Gloria Ann Euell of Norwich, Ct. and they had 7 children together. Gary, wife Christine, Ricardo, wife Linda, Barbara husband Brian Strunk, Glen (Carmen Sands), Lisa husband Martin Ferguson, Lynn husband Eric Goldstein, Judi husband Jim Cellucci. They had 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife Gloria, daughter Barbara and granddaughter Ashley. He was survived by sisters Elizabeth Reeves of Middletown, Eleasa Reeves of West Haven, Willess Garrett of Marlborough, Mary Reeves Brooks of Bloomfield. He was also predeceased by a brother William Reeves, Daisey Harris, Margret, Bray, & Ruby Fletcher.

A graveside service for Buddy will be on May 12th, 2025, on the Reeves family plots off Rt16 side of Linwood Cemetery Colchester CT at 1:30PM. Family & friends are welcome to share a family dish any time after 3pm at 30 Platt Ave Norwich CT.

May Gertha rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
