

Harold Vincent Crouch was born in Mystic, July 18, 1928, to Herbert G. and Anna L. Crouch. He was raised in Ledyard, as the youngest of seven children with three brothers, H. Edwin, Theodore and Raymond, and three sisters; Lillian Roath, Evelyn Johnson and Edna Cooper, all of whom have pre-deceased him. He attended local elementary schools and Norwich Free Academy high school. He studied for one year at Mitchell College in New London.
Harold served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953. He was then employed at Dow Chemical Corporation at Allen's Point in Gales Ferry for 41 years, retiring in 1994. During those years, he was active in employee sports teams and company activities.
Harold was an avid gardener and collaborated with horticultural societies on developing plants for growth in new environments. He worked as a community organization volunteer with local cemetery associations and was involved with local historical and land preservation organizations as well.
Harold was active in his Christian faith. He also supported Christian higher education by establishing and providing ongoing funding for college scholarships for the training of Christian workers.
Harold was loved by a large extended family and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
After being a life-long resident of Ledyard, Harold moved to the Creamery Brook assisted living facility in Brooklyn, in 2013 and later to Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in 2023. He passed into the presence of his Lord Sept. 17, 2025.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Lambtown Cemetery in Ledyard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wildwood Christian School in Norwich.
