

Born on May 1, 1934, in Uncasville, CT, Helen lived a life defined by kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a guiding presence who offered wisdom, warmth, and constant support to generations fortunate enough to call her mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend.
Helen had a special gift for storytelling, gardening, and caring for others. She enjoyed dancing and singing and, in her earlier years, played softball in a women’s league. Throughout her working life, she was a dedicated and hardworking professional, holding bookkeeping and clerical positions. She taught by example the importance of love, resilience, kindness, and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph F. Ulrich and Helen I. Ulrich; her son, Thomas W. Fisher; her brothers, Joseph F. Ulrich Jr. and Martin Ulrich; two nieces and a nephew; and her son-in-law, David A. Schaffner.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Deborah A. Schaffner of Swansboro, NC; her son, Robert M. Fisher of Salem, CT; her grandchildren, Jocelin (Shon) Alves, Theresa (Steve) Haydach, Nicholas Fisher, and Dwayne Fisher; her sister-in-law, Judith Ulrich; six great-grandchildren; her nephew, Jeffrey Ulrich; her niece, Heidi Ulrich; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory forever.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on January 31, 2026, with a celebration of life immediately following at the Church and Allen Funeral Home in Norwich, CT. Helen will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Uncasville, CT.
Though she is no longer with us, her love remains a part of us always. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she held together with grace
