

Norwich- Henri “Moe” Lambert, 89, of Woodlawn Terrace, passed away on May 26, 2016. Henri was born in Windham County, April 5, 1927 and raised in Norwich by Gustave and Annie (Hickman) Lambert. After graduating from NFA in 1945, he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Italy until receiving an Honorable Discharge in February, 1947. Henri then pursued his passion as a drummer by attending the Hartt School of Music, the Berklee College of Music, and playing with Big Bands in the Boston area and Midwest. He then settled in Norwich, joined his brother Ted’s construction business, and married Norwich native Avis Llewellyn at Christ Episcopal Church on October 24,1953. In 1978, after many years working as a master carpenter, he joined the City of Norwich Building Department. He became Norwich’s Building Official and Zoning Enforcement Officer in 1981 and retired from in 1994.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Henri is survived by his daughter Debra and her husband Timothy Duch of Norwich, son David Lambert and his wife Heather of Berlin, MA, and three grandchildren: Christopher Jackson, April Osheroff Lambert and Kara Lambert. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Henri was predeceased by six sisters and three brothers: Regina Lemont, Rose Hooks, Janie Schaeffer, Mabel Mott Brassil, Obeline (Billie) Eyberse Schaeffer, Annie Kuhne, George, Gus and Theodore.
Calling hours will be held at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave, Norwich on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St. at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
